  • Horses roam alongside a Mapuche homestead on the banks of the Río Chimehuin near Lake Huechulafquen in Parque Nacional Lanín in the Patagonia region of Argentina. While the national park is owned by the Argentine government, it allows the Mapuche people to work inside its boundaries as it is designated "Tierra Sagrada" by law for indigenous peoples. There are over 100 families living inside the park, making it one of the largest existing Mapuche communities in the nation.
